California No Fault Divorce

California follows a "no fault" divorce policy, which means that one divorcing party does not need to prove the reason why he or she is getting a divorce. Generally, the reason cited by the parties for a divorce is "irreconcilable differences." The courts generally do not inquire any further as to the reason why people are getting divorced. Obviously, somebody in the legislature had a revelation one day and figured out it was better not to open that can of worms. At least it leaves one less issue for trial.
