The restraining order process is very quick. If domestic violence is occurring, courts recognize the need for quick temporary relief before a permanent order may be put in place. The court may or may not grant your request for a temporary order, but will set another hearing for a date up to 3 weeks later to hear the facts from both sides. After the court hears from both sides, then it will decide whether to make the order permanent.
